Demeter Holiday 2014 Collector's Edition christmas tree fireplace log cabin review

Demeter somehow capsules single scents in the most authentic way. Pick up Christmas Tree, wham, pine needles and presents. Pick up, Log Cabin, boom, suddenly you're back at Summer Camp. Pick up Fireplace, kapow, sooty, smokey firesides. A+ to their Chemists, A+.

The Holiday 2014 Collector's Edition ($45) carries all three of the scents mentioned in 30ml each. No sense is more linked to memories than scent. So let's do some free association as I spritz these while I write and see what comes out first.

Fireplace: That time we had a campfire on a beach in Tofino and my clothes soaked up all the fire smells. My friend warned me it would happen but I wore synthetic materials anyways (which wash scent out less easily). It would have been unpleasant if I hadn't enjoyed the smokey, masculinity of it all but my jacket smelled like campfire for weeks.

Log Cabin: Bam Cedar. I can pick that up a mile away. Two words. Haida Gwaii.  Every province has their own different group of Aboriginal/First Nations peoples. In BC, the predominant group taught in schools was the Haida Gwaii. Cedar log cabins and long boats were a major part of their life, and a major entity in the Westcoast. A whiff of this reminds me of grade school socials studies field trips.

Christmas Tree: That Xmas brunch we always use to have at The Westin Bayshore right near Stanley Park. After eating, all the family members would crowd around the huge christmas tree in the lobby and take photos. We'd always get mandarin oranges on our way out.

These aren't traditional feminine perfume scents so I've mostly use these to spritz around my room. They make great room sprays and I think Log Cabin and a little bit of Fireplace would smell kinda sexy on David actually (if he didn't detest perfume so much).

You can find Demeter scents at Loblaws but unfortunately not the one closest to me. They have some unique, and sometimes very specific, scents (like Dirt, Clean Windows, and Lobster) and I'm quite thrilled with how well they capture the essence of their subject.
