When I heard about the Dior Skinflash foundation, I wanted to bring that baby home. Promise me perfectly natural, flawless airbrushed skin and you'll become my favorite foundation. Unfortunately, Mr Dior is not for the faint of wallet but at least there's the Sephora Perfection Mist Airbrush Foundation*.
The Sephora Perfection Mist Airbrush Foundation* ($35CDN, 2.5oz) promises blurred imperfections and controlled shine for 10 hrs (oooo big promises Sephora....). The matte-satin finish is lightweight and can be built up from light to full.
Color and Coverage
Fawn suits my warm, light to medium yellow skin tone. It's near perfect and the best match out of all the color options. The previous shade, Light, was too light and pink and the shade Medium was too dark. Cream, of course, is much too light and pink. This did not oxidize.
One layer gives very natural looking skin with evened skintone, with minor imperfections covered and a matte-satin finish. Concealer may still be necessary for most. The foundation is incredibly light weight; I do not feel it on. Even with multiple layers, I don't feel caked or covered.
It's true that light to full coverage can be obtained but as layers are built, the setting time takes longer for each subsequent layer. It takes a lot of layers and a small handful of time to get to medium coverage but it can be done. I wouldn't try more than light coverage on rushed morning and I prefer to just use this with two maybe three layers since those set fastest.
Since I have fairly good skin, the coverage is quite perfect for me.

Application
There are two application options. Regardless, shake the can for 5 seconds and don't spray for longer than 10.
Spray directly onto your face, covering your clothes and hair and blend after. This was messy and effortful. I draped a towel on myself and braced my face as Jen blasted cool foundation spray onto it. Some got in my nose. It wasn't very precise even with help. At home, a few tries later, I seemed to get a better handle on it.
or
Spray onto a brush and apply from there. This is preferred but don't spray directly into the middle of your bristles (ie, nozzle inline directly into the brush head and handle) because the product just sinks into the core. Spray it facing perpendicularly, onto the sides of the brush.
Regardless of delivery method, blending with a brush produces completely seamless coverage. Even after a few layers, there is no streaking with the RT Expert Face Brush. Super dry skill will be accentuated but if you have super dry skin, I'd be hard pressed to believe that anything will not make that obvious.
Wear
Though it promises 10 hours of shine free wear, with only 1 layer on, I could see oil peaking through my forehead around 3.5 hrs though the makeup was not breaking up. I did not wear primer nor set with powder. However with a few more layers on, the shine control is nearly as promised.
7am: about three layers applied
1:30pm: barely dewy not shiny. no excessive oil. still feels very light. did not blot.
3:30pm: can see some slight fading on my forehead. slightly dewy rest of face, still has good coverage.
4:43pm: blotted just to see what would happen ,barely any transfer of foundation onto blotting paper but all the oil absorbed onto the paper. surprising since I did not look oily.
Overall
I'm a fan of this foundation and have yet to feel something quite this light and barely there. It is amazingly natural on the skin and wears incredibly well during the day.
I'm curious how much I use per spray and how long this will last. I do loose some product every time, since my aim is awful, but there is 70ml of product which is more than the regular 30ml. This might help compensate for the stuff that gets away.
Before, sorry, slightly over saturated this photo. |
