Andalou Naturals Get Started Brightening Skincare Set

Andalou Naturals Get Started Brightening Skincare Set review

Vacations are a great way to use up skincare trials sets so I took the Andalou Naturals Get Started Brightening Skincare set ($16 CDN) with me to Saskatoon.

The set promises increased radiance, improved tone and fewer lines and wrinkles after 6 weeks. With the basics of cleanser, toners, mask, night and day cream covered, it was an easy and small set to stash in my suitcase and lasted me the entire 11 days/nights of my trip and a few more days at home after that.

Andalou Naturals Get Started Brightening Skincare Set review

Meyer Lemon Creamy Cleanser
I don't think I tested this in the best of condition since the shower water was really soft when I was in Harris, SK. Not matter what I washed with, I always felt slippery but it was really just the water. Taking this home revealed that this was still just an OK gel cleanser with a slight citrus scent. It does the job but doesn't do any heavy lifting.

Clementine + Illuminating Toner
You'll be met with a zingy citrus scent when you use this, almost like orange zest. The toner is immediately mattifyng on the skin.

Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask
If you like your Ren Glycolatic mask, this pumpkn scented mask gives the same tingling exfoliating feeling and has some similar ingredients but without the big price tag. It does a good job at chemical exfoliation and my skin is left smooth afterwards. Be careful how much you slather on, as too much will lead to some serious stinging.

Purple Carrot + C Luminous Night Cream
A good weighted night cream that isn't too heavy but isn't too light either. I enjoyed using as it smoothed well over the face and seemed to do the job.

Probiotic + C Renewal Cream
This orange scented day cream would be suited for most people since it's not too heavy for the day time. A good lotion consistency, some super dry skin individuals may not find this moisturizing enough but I think its good enough for the rest of us.

In General
If you're looking for a 'good for you' brand, Andalou Naturals fits the bill with this set. Non-GMO, no parabens or preservatives, sulfate free, organic ingredients and vegetarian, Andalou will check off a lot of boxes for some.

To be fair, the set isn't going to last me 6 weeks to realize any brightening effects but in general this seems like another 'does the job' sort of skincare set. Everything performs well enough but nothing is really jumping out at me as awesome. The toner is a little too mattifying w/o actually keeping me matte for long, the creams are well executed but nothing to write home about (aside from the 'natural, good for you' status) and the cleanser could use with a bit more strength.

If I had to pick one thing from the group, I'd give my recommendation to the Pumpkin Glycolic mask. It does the job for less of a price tag than Ren and some other chemical exfoliators. I actually found the full sized at Winners and had snapped it up a few months ago so I'm pretty excited to start digging into that.

Have you tried any of Andalou Naturals? I know that Gerry has been on a bit of an Andalou trying spree so check her out for some of their other products.
