Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms

(Unfortunately photos in this post were lost due to The Great Deletion of 2014. Some efforts to re-do photos will be made but not all posts will be redone.)

When these showed up in stores, I snatched up the most vivid colors I could right away!

I was really excited about this! Bright colors? Matte formula? Drugstore price? Awesome! I picked up the colors Shameless (a dark purple), Unapologetic (bright coral pink), and Showy (light blue based pink) so that I could have some outrageous color options in my lipstick wardrobe should the mood or party ever strike.

These products are supposed to give a velvet matte look and provide a moisture rich balm. The formula includes shea, mango and coconut butters to deliver moisture to the lips.

I really really really really wanted to love these. The product glides on very easily. The colors are serioulsy amazing! But I have to say, they fall a little short for me. The balms accentuates any dryness on your lips and the product catches on flakes to produce a very patchy look on your lips. If your lips are perfectly smooth, this is less of a problem for the lighter shades but Shameless still applied inconsistently. From far away, the product looks fine but if you're up close, you can see how the lipstick sits on every flake and builds up in weird ways.

This was not the most moisturizing product. Often, matte products are drying to begin with and though these did not dry out my lips quickly, they really didn't deliver the moisture Revlon promises. They do stain nicely (albeit in patches) so reapplication is the only way you're going to ensure you have the look you want. Considering all the other matte options on the market, formula-wise, these just don't hold up as strongly.

There may still be a place for these in your collection if there is a color you really want but aren't willing to buy a higher end version of (ie  Unapologetic could be close to MAC's Candy Yum-Yum, Shameless for MAC's Heroine which has a cream finish). But still, you'll have to work at them to get a good look. In general, I would recommend the NYX matte lipsticks (which come in a quite a good range of colors) over these.

Did you get a chance to try these out? Would you want to own a few brights in your collection?
