Toronto taught me that dry hair is a real affliction. Until I lived there, I never gave my hair a second thought. The wonderful temperate climate of Vancouver keep my hair tamed and generally "regular". The near-Siberian temperatures of Toronto had me battling static fly-aways and brittle strands. I never knew I had to care for my hair until I lived a winter in TO and tried this and this to solve my problems. So if you are in that situation, consider these three options to protect, reconstruct or thicken your hair in crisis.

Oil Testing (ft. Skinny Coconut Oil)*
*Press Sample
I've seen the rise in popularity of other oils and Coconut is one of the most common. Some of my friends have suggested I use it to cook. Others have told me the benefits of using it in their hair. The internet also momentarily confused me with the idea of "oil pulling". With so many potential uses and equally as many claims of benefit, I'm pretty happy to be testing out the Skinny & Company Coconut Oil* ($15CDN, 2oz).

Other Ways to Style Barrettes (ft. Sephora Quick Fix Hair Barrettes)*
*Press Sample
My friends, let's consider the barrette. Simple in nature, these hair bobbles pin back ponytails, add pizzazz to hair dos and generally improve tidiness by 10x. But a barrette is not as simple as it appears. This hair accessory is suprisingly multi-use. Here are some ways to style barrettes that have nothing to do with hair.

Rachel McAdam's Hair
Having short hair is great! It takes no effort to dry. It is reasonable tidy most days. If your cut is interesting enough, there's instant style without really trying. But short hair...can get boring and I don't have any idea how to style it.

A Time and Place for Salt
*Press sample
Some chef's say you should season between every step of cooking while others may only season near the end. More often that not, salt is the seasoning of choice and I have on hand table and sea and am not afraid to brine, crust, or just slightly top an ingredient in salt. But I have learned the hard way, that there is a place and time for salt.

Two Products and Three Steps to Volume without Heat*
*Press Sample
Look, I know that I can get whatever hair style I want (for my hair length). Give me a heating tool, maybe an hour or two extra in the morning, and I'm sure I can pull off whatever magazine 'do' we're all craving this moment. But let's be realz, whipping out a heating tool is a pain, and I don't feel like de-tangling wire cords that early in the morning.
My hair is pretty forgiving. I don't have problematic bed-head, short hair doesn't get too tangled and a bob is more or less easy to maintain. But there are times when I just need volume. It seems like all the volumizing products I've encountered need to be tempered by heat else your hair style falls flat in 2 hours. Thankfully, I've finally found a working, no-heat, quick volumizing solution.

Briefly On Hair
| Before |
Last tuesday I finally set my world rightside up again after a visit to Chura in Vancouver. As each day passed since my last hairdressing, my patience for my growing locks dwindled and I increasingly became disgusted with the shag of shapeless near-black head grass developing on the top of my scalp.
