I've heard a lot of buzz about the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara* ($11CDN) especially from La Belle Sirene. This semi-latest (there's the Chaotic Mascara, recently out for summer) mascara has a liquid volumizing formula which contains "black pearls" and a specially made wand which is supposed to fan out your lashes.
The brush has 10 layers of bristles (Question, is this more or less than other? Not sure.) One edge is more curved than the other with bristles of varying lengths. Use the flat side to volumize the lashes and the curved side to fan the lashes out. The formula is indeed very liquid, something I don't prefer.
I recently came across a post with 100 mascaras used on the same eye, with pictures compared side to side and I thought that was brilliant. It's such a good way to compare mascaras and so I put Maybelline's Lash Sensational up against my current favorite, MUFE's Smoky Stretch.
Since the formula is liquid, it didn't quite build up my lashes as quickly as a more waxy formula, like MUFE's, did. I found I had to wait between layers for volume to actually take hold on my lash and because the formula is still quite wet, two neighboring lashes sometimes stuck together via a drop of fluid. The fanning side of the brush can sometimes help seperate them but not always.
The formula does volumize but results differed each day. It lengthen and I didn't have any smudging. This was a better than average drugstore mascara. You have to work around the liquidity of the formula but the end results are pretty good. I do still prefer a dryer formula which can immediately build up and out. Sometimes I don't have a lot of time to run a brush through my lashes repeatedly to get the length and volume I want, ya know?
