Essence has reformulated their 3D Shadow ($3.99CDN) line to improve blendability and creaminess. I got to explore three of them. Promising excellent 'color dispersion' and high coverage. They can be used wet or dry and come in a range of finishes from metallic to satin. At this price point, I really hoping to fall in love with these but my feelings are a bit mixed.
Irresistible Vanilla Latte
This shade was very gritty. The color is a nice orangey amber with a corresponding highlighter in a cream shade. I liked the color combination but as I applied eyeliner, some of the glitter transferred onto the pencil, making it difficult to deposit liner and some glitter fell into my eyes.
Irresistible Fullmoon Flash
This light steely lavender was such a pretty color. You can see the glitter fleck but this wasn't as chunky as Vanilla Latte. The color applied more comfortably but it did crease during the day.
Irresistible Choco Cupcake
You can't go wrong with a pretty pink with a plummy crease color. This duo was probably the easiest of the three to use. The fallout was minimal, if at all, and the color combination was more effortless. This shade wow-ed me the most.
Overall, I have mixed feelings about the 3D shadows. I really wanted to like them and I would tend to agree with the blendablility claims. The $4 price point is great but some of the shades turned out really gritty. Durability during the day was mixed. I had some creasing with Fullmoon Flash but Choco Cupcake performed well. It would have been helpful if the type of finish was labelled on the packaging. I would say avoid the chunky glitter ones and go for the satin finishes. Its hard to know which is which without swatching though.
Have you tried the 3D shadows?
