The Body Shop has released new Lip and Cheek Velvet Sticks* ($15CDN, 4g) in 6 shades. Intended for both cheeks and lips, it is supposed to give a matte finish in a velvety petal soft formula. The stick format makes it easy to apply this medium coverage product.

When they said this was velvety, they weren't making false claims. The product glided onto my lips very smoothly and softly. They felt very gentle and comfortable on my lips. I received 50 Universal, which is LE, and 40 Red. The Universal Shade is supposed to 'adapt to the unique PH of your skin" while Red is a blue leaning, slightly fuchsia red color. These really weren't matte to me. They had a satin finish.

When swatched on my arm, Universal looked as purple as the bullet but when worn on the lips it produced a vibrant Orchid shade that was very sexy. Both shades left a good stain but reapplication during the day was still necessary The stain from Universal  was more indicative of the final lip color than the initial swatch, which never changed color.

Wear on the cheeks was less promising than on the lips. It was necessary to apply more to achieve an even cheek color and they didn't quite blend out as evenly as I'd like. The velvety nature of the product made it shift overtop my foundaiton at times and it also faded during the day. If you're looking for a natural flush, these would be good options but if you like more obvious cheek colors that don't need reapplication, you might want to stick with more traditional blush options.

In general, though cheek performance could have been improved, I'm really liking these for my lips. They're comfortable, the two shades I tried were flattering and my lips did not get dry from use.

Would you give these a try? Do you like duo-use products?
