Dior Fluid Eyeshadows*

Trying new things can be frightening or exhilarating. For example, when David taught me how to ride a bike (that one time) both him and I didn't realize how afraid I actually was about learning. Every time I got on and pedalled, I maintained a pained grimaced face while emitting a panicked low whine until the bike stopped. Trying to turn was also a traumatic experience.  Half my brain was scared to the point of paralysis while the other half was very excited I could turn. All the while, I was verbalizing "keep pedalling, keep pedalling!!!! Don't stop, don't stop!!!" and started softly crying when I completed my first circle around the gravelled area we were on. I am possibly the noisiest biker learner in history.

Sometimes when I'm testing out a new product, the lack of expectations makes me verbalize how I feel about my first impressions. When testing the new Dior fluid eyeshadows, I said a "Woah" when I swatched them on my hand, but there were slightly different things being spoken once I put them on my lids.

The Dior Addic Fluid Eyeshadows* ($36 CDN, 6ml) promise mirror like, lacquer shine with a wet fluid that dries in seconds. The pigments are supposed to blend seamlessly with the skin and you are only supposed to wear them on the main eye lid area (avoiding the crease). The product can be used as an all-over eye shade or as eyeliner.

The colors are intensely gorgeous but these are only useful as a one color wash over the lids. They are not waterproof and removing the color often leaves glitter left over on the lids. The brush picks up an excess of fluid. Removing the excess is imperative but there's a fine balance between just enough and not enough fluid.

When brushed onto the lids, the fluid can apply patchy if you didn't have enough fluid. When properly applied, it leaves a beautiful shade of very metallic color. Unfortunately the fluid does set quickly (but not quickly enough that it remains undisturbed if you blink in that 5 sec drying time). It is not blendable. Attempts to blend left patches of color on my lids. Trying to add another fluid color on top will disturb the lower layers. When I tried to blend colors I said, "Nope, not happening."

Like some other products I've tried before. This is a very specific look and not a very versatile product. The high metallic one-color wash makes for a great party eye and there's something high-fashion about the finish if you use the gold or silver. For everyday, you may get away with the pink or taupe but it is a bit too metallic for me. The concept of these are very exciting but the product has too many finicky points which keep me from really loving them. I often like to wear multiple colors but the one color look may work sometimes.
