Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder*

There's a certain small-time anguish that comes with the realization that your beloved product is no longer available. I'm coming to the end of my Maybelline Dream Matte Powder and I noticed that it has been discontinued. Why!?!?! It worked so well to mattify and sometimes I used it all on its own. In its place, Maybelline has launched the Dream Wonder Powder*.

While the Dream Matte Powder is talc based, the Dream Wonder Powder is based in silicone which gives it a bit more glide. Between the two colors I received, Classic Ivory was a little too ashy (and not yellow enough) while Sandy Beige (yellow toned) worked a bit better though it was slightly darker than my winter skin tone. I can still wear it though. No one has commented that it looks too off but sometimes I catch myself in the mirror and think it's too dark.

When applied, the finish is smooth and I like how satin everything looks. I don't feel cakey and I still look natural. I'm using this in the winter time when I'm not that oily so I can't really comment much on oil control.

Applied with the sponge, the powder catches on dry bits but gives almost medium coverage. I prefer using a flat top kabuki brush but it seems to kick up powder everytime I do. I still use it though since it gives a more sheer finish. Concealer for the undereye area might still be necessary but I don't feel the need to cover up much else. I liked how I could apply the Dream Matte Powder sheerly as setting powder but I wouldn't use the Dream Wonder to set. It doesn't seem to sit on top of liquid foundation well and works best as a standalone foundation product.

I have to say that I miss the versatility of the Dream Matte Powder but this new powder does work well as a base. Though more compact, I'm not a huge fan of the how the mirror flips up instead of swivels out (in the matte version) but the sponge is a bit easier to clean than the puff. Now I just need a new setting powder now...
