Lancome Rouge in Love Lipsticks (106M, 174B, 377N)*

When the Lancome Rouge in Love* lipsticks came out, I stood in Shoppers long enough to get multiple "can I help you?" inquiries from SAs while I swatched all the colors. I then returned a few more times and swatched them again and again in an attempt to find the one.

I still haven't settled on any yet but being sent three to try has satisfied my curiosity about these. Advertised as radiant color with the soothing feel of a balm, the Lancome Rouge in Love lipsticks are long lasting and come in three colors families (Matin, Boudoir and Nuit). It offers medium to full coverage and oh man, does it stain.

First application was a bit unsatisfactory. The lightest shade Jolis Matin (a peachy nude), accentuated and clung to dry flakes and sunk into my lip lines. I exfoliated and rehydrated my lips to try it again a second day but I still didn't love the look. In general, I've read that the lighter shades are more light in coverage (though I wouldn't say it was sheer).

Crazy Tangerine launched in Summer 2013 and a red-orange leaning heavily towards orange.

Midnight Rose was the winner out of the bunch. Still settling slighty into lip lines, the saturation of the color hid more flaws than Jolis Matin. 

Overall:

The darkest shade performed the best and these all melt nicely on the lip (once you've "broken the seal" of the top layer) but they sink a little into my lip lines and don't wear away as evenly on me as I would like. However, they have great staining power and you get a nice almost pigmented jelly finish and feel on the lips. The glossiness is quite pretty on these and the weight is light but there is a discernible taste when you're eating and I didn't find them as hydrating as they are supposed to be. I reached for lip balm rather than reapplying on a few occasions. 

This is an alright-good formula. A LOT of people love these so I'm wondering what I'm missing since I'm not over the moon about them. There are some great bold color options, the staining quality is quite good and the glossiness is nice but I wish it had been hydrating and wore more evenly.
