My friend, (hey Vani), is skeptical about lip and cheek duo products. SO, in this OCTOGONAL RING, these products are facing (and lipping?) off to see which cuisine reigns supreme. Specific shades won't be discussed but application, wear time, pigmentation and finish are reviewed. Shout out to Jen, who lent more than a few of these to me. We are looking for something that sits well on the face without drying the lips, lasts reasonably through the day and is coordinated in color.
1) Becca Beach Tint - Guava
This gelly squeeze tube provides a beautifully sheer coordinated and natural look. "Skin+" if I ever saw it. Applied once in the morning, the color is still present on the cheeks by the end of the day, and on the lips through an oily meal and drinking. I did have to layer it on the lips. The product feels invisible and lips looking and feeling like lips. Cheeks give off a natural flush. It's possible to layer but you won't get opaque color.
Final thought: I will probably pick some of these up in the future and I really like the sheer natural look. Even though I only used very little, the effect was noticeable and it cleans everything up for a perfect no-makeup face.
2) Canmake Cream Cheek - 7
I heard that you could use these on the lips too so I gave it a try. The color on the cheeks and lips do no coordinate. It comes off more coral on the cheeks but definitely baby cool toned pink on lips. There was fading of the blush after 5 hours. On the lips this wore dry and powdery, it clings to crevices and dry areas but held out nicely through a meal. You can feel the alcohol evaporate to leave the powder on your lips.
Final thought: I would not recommend this for duo use but quite like it for the cheeks.
3) Cargo Blush Stick - Santorini*
Though tube formulas get rid of the gross dipping in pan issue, this product is very creamy and mushes when you press it. There has great glowy color payoff on cheeks and goes from cream to powder. It's very bendable but takes a few seconds to set. Packaging is annoying because of the softnes of the product. It's not hydrating on lips but not too drying. You will get a frosted finish on lips.
Final thought: Great color payoff and sits so well on cheeks and lips. However, the mushy formula makes it hard to keep the tube clean and the frosted finish on the lips isn't a fave. I'll probably reserve this for cheek use only.
4) Lust Emotional Brilliance - Perspective*
The doe foot wand makes this easy to swipe over the cheeks but it blended out a bit too sheer and moved around until it set. It goes on near opaque on the lips and leaves a slight stain. There's a nice satin finish on the lips and cheeks, with some slight glowiness. It does fade on the cheeks but lasts a bit better on the lips.
Final thoughts: If the formula weren't so movable, I'd think I'd like this a bit more.
5) Maybelline Master Glaze - Make A Mauve*
There are glitter/shimmer particles but it doesn't feel over the top and you get a good sheen on the cheeks. It's lightly creamy when applied to lips, almost lipstick like, and blends over the cheeks very well with fingers. There was a good enough stain on the lips even through an oily lunch meal and it feels incredibly comfortable through the day. Not drying but does settle slightly into dry areas. Color on cheeks and on lips are coordinated. It's slightly more comfortable than Stila.
Final thoughts: A really good product! If only they had some matte and non-shimmer but dewy options.
6) NARS Matte Multiple - Siam
This is bam in your face matte color. Be careful when applying as even the smallest amount goes a long way and you really have to buff it out quite a bit. Matte on cheeks and lips, it sits much like a matte lipstick would and some dryness is accentuated. It makes my lip lines very visible but doesn't sit heavily on the lips though did flake and smear off rather unattractively when I ate an apple.
Final thoughts: In love but also so very afraid of the explosive pigmentation! Very high maintenance on the lips.
7) RMS Lips2Cheek - Modest
This is quite pigmented when applied so a bit of blending is required but it blends awesomely. It has a jelly watery texture which falls into cracks and dry areas as it wears on the lips through the day. However, lips don`t feel parched. Color is coordinated between lips and cheeks.
Final thoughts: Not bad but for the price, it should have sat better on the lips. Considering how comparatively cheaper some of the other options are, this wouldn't be first pick.
8) Stila Convertible Color - Lillium*
These goes smoothly on lips. It isn't hydrating but it's not drying. Cheeks are slightly dewy but not over the top. Color seems slightly lighter on lips than on cheek. Lasted well enough on lips and cheeks but can see some specks of dryness on the lips, though not as severe as the Canmake. The line doesn't have glitter in it which might sway some people.
Final thoughts: Its a hard choice between the Maybelline and this BUT if you don't want shimmer these are a good option.
In General
Your choice will ultimately come down to, maybe, application method and finish. I'm not too picky about reapplying and most of these lasted well enough on the cheeks so that reapplication wasn't entirely necessary.
Germaphobe Picks: Becca, Cargo, Lush, Maybellne, NARS
Dewy Lover Picks: Maybelline, maybe Cargo if you don't mind a slightly frosted lip.
