Garnier's new Deconstructed line promises a done-yet-undone look with 24 hour touchable, deconstructed style with a soft satin finish. Having tried a pseudo-perm (where I waffled for about 20 mins at the salon and the dresser decided to finally imitate a perm by blowdrying so I could get a sense of how it would look before I committed....) I realized I wanted to do something NEW with my hair. I like my hair generally but I just wanted something different so instead of opting for the perm (though I still just may) going with styling products seemed an inexpensive alternative.

The Deconstructed Beach Chi Texturizing Spray ($6.99CDN) uses black fig and sea-salt to boost body. You're suppose to spray it into damp/dry hair and leave it in a bun over night to get loose texturized waves. The product is supposed to have extra strong hold.

The Pixie Play Crafting Cream ($6.99CDN) uses a silky cream-wax with black fig to give definition and moveable control for messy shaggy looks. If you want piecey or out-of-bed looks, you can use a dime sized amount through dry/damp hair and piece out your hair as you like. This is supposed to have extra strong hold.

The Move it Manipulating Gel ($6.99CDN) is a lightweight texturizing styler with creamy-gel texture that won't weigh hair down. It's suppose to give roughed-up looks by working it into your hair the same as the other products. This is supposed to give ultra strong hold.

(Keep in mind that my hair is short)
The hairspray and cream, by themselves and together, give a lot of volume to my hair. The feel is soft and moveable as promised. However, at the end of the day, volume has slightly deflated from my hair (though not totally). You can still jeoosh it up to get the look again but as far as hold goes, I was expecting a little bit more strength. I do get a better result if I use more product but it also leaves my hair slightly hairspray-y feeling. Since my hair is short, there's no way for me to pull it into a bun to leave over night, so I really missed out on any beachy-wavy-ness. This is more a factor of my hair than the product. Scrunching the ends of my hair didn't really give me the same curls that a curling iron would but that's just the nature of the two different techniques.

I had better results with the Move It Gel. Though it made my hair a little hard when I used it, the volume lasted most of the day and I could move it my hair around as promised. This gave me better hold and I would recommend it for people with chin length or shorter hair.

All the products wash out of my hair well. Longer hair individuals may find these products more promising. If you like to focus waves on the lower lengths of your hair, the cream and spray will work best. If you have much shorter hair, I'd go with the gel. I do think the cream and spray have a place for people with shorter hair but if you're like me, a complete hair noob, you'll have to work a little to get a really tousled look that lasts.

Any hair recommendations? Or perm pointers?

Daily Zen: I'm making a point to try all the good restaurants on my street and I just ate at Cafe Polonez. Really good!!! Especially when some of their mains come in half sizes which lowers the cost and still give a sizeable portion. Om nom nom perogies.....
