I've been looking for a good foundation for quite some time and I've mostly bumped into misses. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation had been getting a lot of attention a few months ago so I decided to chase it down at Shoppers Drug Mart.
This product has been suggested to be a dupe for Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. Since I have not used that one, I can't really make the comparison. Healthy Mix Serum is advertised as a gel foundation which produces a 16hr radiance boosted, even and revived complexion. It is suppose to instantly blend to give flawless and undetectable coverage. It provides a semi-matt finish and includes the vitamin rich fruits, lychee, goji berry and pomegranate which are suppose to instantly anti-fatique. It is suppose to provide 8hrs of moisture and improve your skins radiance by 69% in 4 weeks.
I bought this sometime during late winter/early spring in the shade 53 light beige which was a bit dark at the time. Shoppers didn't have 52 and I went to a few of them so I decided to settle for 53. I was also disappointed that Shoppers didn't carry the regular Healthy Mix Foundation which doesn't have a gel consistency For the winter the shade was just a touch too dark but now that I have a bit of color from the sun it works quite well. I realize I should probably get color matched at MAC which would make color comparisons easier for those reading.
The foundation has a very light consistency. It's not thick and smooths onto the skin very nicely. It really is undetectable and doesn't cake up though it can cling to dry patches. If you have oily or combo skin, I would not recommend this product as it does not help keep your face from getting oily. My skin type is combination and I knew this could be an issue going in when I bought it. During the day, my skin gets noticeably oily when I use this even if I have powdered. However, it works quit well over Laura Mercier's Oil Free Foundation primer. I was slightly dewy after 5 hrs or so. For those irritated by scents, there is a light fresh scent that I can't quite place my finger on. Some people have said it smells like lychee but I honestly don't think it does. As for its radiance and moisture claims, this does hydrate the skin but I did not notice a difference in the radiance of my skin.
I really wish this didn't make me so oily because I love the way it sits on the skin and the way it applies. I would recommend this product to those who want light coverage to even out their complexion and have normal or even slightly dry skin. People with combo skin may get away with it if they have a good powder but those with oily skin should stay away.
Have you tried this foundation or the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua?
