Hello. (It's me...)), thank you for waiting more than two years for an update, but my dear you shouldn't be waiting that long for anyone.)<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAzRxiUsVYT7Rqmb0N6DPY7XtggZVvRoeyyLs-JXAaX6M8JMMzgoCAf_Cin73AyB9xEfA7DNEVJ9bD5qJjaBM9ThjE7iom_jj7JoJpJ2gPW-7F9qA-OEzsGgmtvzelELIV2KLuUm4qGNnw/s1600/IMG_1880.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAzRxiUsVYT7Rqmb0N6DPY7XtggZVvRoeyyLs-JXAaX6M8JMMzgoCAf_Cin73AyB9xEfA7DNEVJ9bD5qJjaBM9ThjE7iom_jj7JoJpJ2gPW-7F9qA-OEzsGgmtvzelELIV2KLuUm4qGNnw/s640/IMG_1880.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I can only bank so much on my Asian skin genes and not calling for reinforcements is an underestimation of the powers of cumulative UV rays and our propensity to keep breaking down that good ol' ozone layer (but that's another post which we aren't here for). Which all just means, I wear my sunscreen and most often I have it combined within my moisturizer, powder, or foundation to make life less cluttered.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
A colleague mentioned that computer screens age us with UV light emissions and a question of sunscreen preferences was raised. I quickly chimed in that everyone needs to get on the Asian sunscreen train, like ASAP, like yesterday.<br />
<br />
Since I was asked for my preferences, I feel some obligation to give a half-way decent answer - I did use to write about this stuff and I still have a fading reputation to uphold. So here we are and before anyone gets too excited, this isn't a comeback (look I didn't even tag or properly compose my photos and we all know how important <i>that</i> is, *lookin' at you, beauty bloggers*).<br />
<br />
My sunscreen choices will always lean towards those developed/sold in Asia. They've just cared about skin pigmentation for way longer and to a stronger degree than North America. This means more innovation, more demand for different formulas that work in hot humid weathers, and the ability to scale production. In other words, thinner, stronger formulas at drug store prices.<br />
<br />
The Western market has been coming around though. Some choices to consider are:<br />
<b><a href="https://beauty.shoppersdrugmart.ca/Luxury/Categories/Derm-Skin-Care/Face/Moisturizers/Hydraphase-UV-SPF-30-Hydrating-Moisturizer-Sunscreen-with-Hyaluronic-Acid/p/BB_3433422406674?variantCode=3433422406674">La Roche Posay Hydraphase UV SPF 30</a> </b>($39.95CDN/50ml): It's a great everyday moisturizer with SPF in a lotion like consistency. It's not heavy and you can't tell it has sunscreen. Once I get through all the new sunscreens/moisturizers I have, I'll likely repurchase this as a basic everyday option.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b><a href="https://beauty.shoppersdrugmart.ca/Luxury/Categories/Derm-Skin-Care/Body/Sun-Care/Emulsion-SPF-50%2B/p/BB_673914020190?variantCode=673914020190">Avène High Protection Emulsion SPF 50</a> </b>($25.50CDN/50ml): I wrote about my love for it <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.com/2016/05/avene-high-protection-emulsion-spf-50-review.html">here</a> when I received it through PR contacts but have since repurchased it with my own dollars.<br />
<br />
<b><a href="https://www.clarins.ca/en/uv-50-day-screen-multi-protection/01295260.html">Clarins UV Plus HP SPF 50</a> </b>($42CDN/50ml): I tried their old SPF40 version (looks like they may have changed the formula since though) and liked the lightweight feel and matte dry down. (<a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.com/2014/07/sunscreen-options-with-clarins.html">This is a quick post on that option and all of Clarins' body sunscreen options</a>)<br />
<br />
I just cracked open the <b><a href="https://www.kiehls.ca/en/skincare/category/sun-care/super-fluid-uv-defense-spf-50-3605971618123.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjqi5ydSq6QIV5z2tBh2HsgSMEAQYAiABEgJkBfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds">Kiehl's Super Fluid UV Defence SPF 50 </a></b>($47CDN/50ml) and was pleasantly surprised by the very thin texture and matte dry down. It's less thick than Avène's but both dry down to the same finish.<br />
<br />
(If you're interested, <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.com/2014/06/summer-sun-protection.html">this is a post on a random selection of sunscreen.</a>)<br />
<br />
The above approximate the thinner Asian formulas with maybe Kiehl's winning out but all at higher prices.<br />
<br />
It kills me that a large proportion of Asian sunscreen varieties aren't sold in Western stores - even Shiseido's <a href="http://anessa.shiseido.co.jp/en/">Anessa line</a> isn't sold in Shiseido's Western outlets and that's a big seller in Asia. That being said, Korean brands have been getting a foothold into Western culture and Asian supermarkets, like T&T, have beauty sections with good options so we aren't completely left out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjONI4jCGJ2ohOopYO32j5CHPSUd8me9UiEvC7JxWVsr8w2tVlspnWsiUHvMn6_1M-1ZxnTZG9TEvcMhKf8JtLlVzrx4nt2W5oEKnjNRk6mdbE-ZvAsVfHpB3R0Lem7bfSm0FvlSRVeu4_6/s1600/IMG_1882.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjONI4jCGJ2ohOopYO32j5CHPSUd8me9UiEvC7JxWVsr8w2tVlspnWsiUHvMn6_1M-1ZxnTZG9TEvcMhKf8JtLlVzrx4nt2W5oEKnjNRk6mdbE-ZvAsVfHpB3R0Lem7bfSm0FvlSRVeu4_6/s640/IMG_1882.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When I'm in Asia, I step into a drug or cosmetics store and randomly buy 4 - 5 sunscreen options. Even at random, they're <i>always</i> better in terms of formula and price than Western varieties I've tried. During my last trip to Korea, I bought three from <b><a href="https://us.innisfree.com/">Innisfree</a> </b>and have been using the <b><a href="http://m.innisfreeworld.com/product/productView.do?prdSeq=11307&eventSeq=628&catCd01=">Moist Winter Barrier SPF50</a>.</b> I paid all of...what, $14 for it? Maybe $11? I enjoy everything about it as a winter moisturizer except for the floral scent.<br />
<br />
I haven't used the same product twice but some Asian options to consider are <a href="https://www.yesstyle.com/en/missha-all-around-safe-block-essence-sun-spf45-pa-50ml-2017-new-all/info.html/pid.1048875972"><b>Missha All-Around Safe Sun Block Essence SPF45</b></a> for face, anything from <a href="https://www.yesstyle.com/en/list.html?q=suncut&bpt=48" style="font-weight: bold;">Suncut</a>,<b> <a href="https://www.yesstyle.com/en/rohto-mentholatum-skin-aqua-uv-super-moisture-milk-spf-pa-40ml-2-types/info.html/pid.1088081510">Skin Aqua</a> </b>and <a href="https://www.yesstyle.com/en/list.html?q=biore+spf&bpt=48"><b>Bioré</b></a> for the body. Unfortunately, all will need to be purchased online (try Ebay, <a href="https://web1.sasa.com/SasaWeb/eng/sasa/home.jsp">Sasa</a>, or <a href="https://www.yesstyle.com/en/women.html?utm_medium=YSKW&utm_source=Google+Ads&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0Nu-4cGt6QIVpCCtBh04kQq7EAAYASAAEgKa5PD_BwE&bac=4L4LWCFK&_branch_match_id=507672216365737871&~ad_set_id=57377941122&~campaign_id=1417256868&$fallback_url=https://www.yesstyle.com/en/tcuc.CAD/home.html&$always_deeplink=false">Yesstyle</a> - I've purchased from all three before) but if you want to step into a store you may find options at T&T Supermarket, The Face Shop, and random Asian beauty stores in Richmond. I suspect that prices are higher than in Asia though.<br />
<br />
One worth a specific mention is <a href="https://www.yesstyle.com/en/shiseido-majolica-majorca-nude-makes-gel-spf-50-pa-25g-2-types-light/info.html/pid.1077156513?cpid=1063370889" style="font-weight: bold;">Majolica Majorca's Nude Makes Gel SPF 50 (For Active Girls) </a>(~$25CDN?/25g): It's not in the drug store price realm but I <i>loved</i> this stuff. It's a tinted face moisturizer with the benefit of an Asian sunscreen formula that even works for my "darker" Asian skin tone (but likely not for anything darker). Majolica Majorca is a sub-brand of Shiseido (their mascara is great and they have <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.com/2015/01/majolica-majora-puff-de-cheek-swatch-review.html">really cute blushes</a>). I wore it all through one summer and it never felt heavy.<br />
<br />
Regardless of which sunscreen you choose, slather it on (I once heard a tablespoon is needed to properly cover your face), and bring it all the way down past your neck.<br />
<br />
As a final note to this long not-return to my blog, for those who haven't gotten on the cleansing oil train...that's a great follow up journey to your foray into Asian sunscreens. Water and soap doesn't always cut it when cleaning sunscreen off your face, but a good cleansing oil will always do the trick.abeautifulzenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06232935500750408509noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7978053408252514171.post-70710411781363303972017-10-18T00:01:00.000-04:002017-10-18T00:01:00.236-04:00Currently Eating: Frozen Persimmons<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
David has had to convince me of frozen fruit a few times now. Always a fan of blueberries, his fridge tended to have the usual frozen fruit varieties of berries and mangoes. He would freeze bananas (which I readily loved with huge slathers of peanut butter) and most recently, he suggested that persimmons were great frozen as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really love persimmons but sometimes I lose the waiting game of "when is it ripe?" and reaching for one will see my fingers depressing just a bit too deeply into the skin. A lumpy blacked persimmon doesn't sound all that appetizing but we've chucked them whole, skin on, into the freezer. A day's wait turns the ripened persimmon into, basically, fruit sherbet.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The skin comes off amazingly easy if you leave it out for a few minutes. Easily peel-able by hand in large strips, the remains are a huge globe of creamy sweet fruit, that isn't ice-like. I wasn't a huge fan of the first one I ate but I'm coming around and these are definitely delicious.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Give it a try!</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidjGGGg1WsAfKMvmI7xioLLx0luVIa6w8eyJwKn_-49EuPOGpfXWRltIcjIS4icAQXTnt9xbPnA4XlzljtoElRJ4pBYfj95cSnK-RCQc20v_tOk7Ez7hS7t1vCRZSpsH-2H7-yaM3SL-hV/s1600/annabelle-big-show-mascara-review.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidjGGGg1WsAfKMvmI7xioLLx0luVIa6w8eyJwKn_-49EuPOGpfXWRltIcjIS4icAQXTnt9xbPnA4XlzljtoElRJ4pBYfj95cSnK-RCQc20v_tOk7Ez7hS7t1vCRZSpsH-2H7-yaM3SL-hV/s1600/annabelle-big-show-mascara-review.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The <b>Annabelle Big Show Mascara* </b>($10CDN) was an unexpected surprise! This basic plastic tube and pink cap amped up my lashes. What's more it performed much better than the waterproof version, which I had tried previously.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg01v2vBAHiwDI6ToQnegcBgk7KgBtLdfgb-5w7djCuqGiqkaFNZjX6lSU4IcJBb1XOUMn4m29swdWfif0UD3Ska5_a-qEEqwBI_gxSYXqh40KgrG3IogcFvFYEtTa0TNvnAOjLyM5SChBg/s1600/annabelle-big-show-mascara-review-2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg01v2vBAHiwDI6ToQnegcBgk7KgBtLdfgb-5w7djCuqGiqkaFNZjX6lSU4IcJBb1XOUMn4m29swdWfif0UD3Ska5_a-qEEqwBI_gxSYXqh40KgrG3IogcFvFYEtTa0TNvnAOjLyM5SChBg/s1600/annabelle-big-show-mascara-review-2.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When I received the latest Annabelle Mascaras, I considered passing this on since the waterproof version didn't build or do great things for me. Somehow though, this original version performs much better! Though rated as one of Annabelle's volumizing mascaras, it also gave me really good length. Each stroke built upon the last and I could see additional millimeter of product extending my lashes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2nWj-efLXjtycMV2aLGmIqH4PfkNN6pQUglonjmxHMHkFW4nbmLvUm_TEU1nLehe8B8I3RxEnbSVTjMt4fD75BcLFTHfRT457TqK9jedlzgXxiKO-KIb26a1Ruf0RixMIdli1C-jDN4Ff/s1600/annabelle-big-show-mascara-results.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2nWj-efLXjtycMV2aLGmIqH4PfkNN6pQUglonjmxHMHkFW4nbmLvUm_TEU1nLehe8B8I3RxEnbSVTjMt4fD75BcLFTHfRT457TqK9jedlzgXxiKO-KIb26a1Ruf0RixMIdli1C-jDN4Ff/s1600/annabelle-big-show-mascara-results.jpeg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The $10 price is a perfect amount to pay for this great drugstore option. I recommend this to anyone though the downfall is its waterproof-less properties. The last additional quality necessary in my mascara's of choice, is the one that strangely makes this version less awesome!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn8VjoZrYByxGN9OHoFraIHJ3B8C-mhck58FEXJYF9YSfN14H3x7383JN08JrYgq-nyS5X5_37PM6V0x5dsCcFWGx-99_IXlUP286JljbA33aW_eK247BfXexc_lY5tZPItuKaSvMOGbRp/s1600/annabelle-big-show-mascara-review-3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn8VjoZrYByxGN9OHoFraIHJ3B8C-mhck58FEXJYF9YSfN14H3x7383JN08JrYgq-nyS5X5_37PM6V0x5dsCcFWGx-99_IXlUP286JljbA33aW_eK247BfXexc_lY5tZPItuKaSvMOGbRp/s1600/annabelle-big-show-mascara-review-3.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Even so, unless you expect a tear filled day, this is one to keep in mind the next time you're in for a drugstore mascara option.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sharing my struggles in achieving a fitness balance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This morning I planned to do a yoga and HIIT class at the gym but I couldn't get myself out of bed. In bed, I hated myself for being <i>"lazy" </i>and while I knew that one missed work out wouldn't be the end of the world, I felt guilty about staying home. Worse, I had thoughts about my weight, how I was missing a chance to develop muscle and how I should eat less during the day to compensate (and realizing that I wouldn't, added onto the guilt). </div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I read an article about <a href="http://furthermore.equinox.com/articles/2016/12/how-to-do-a-movement-cleanse">Movement Cleanses</a> (stick "cleanse" onto the end of anything, and it gains instant credibility). I want to believe in what it was telling me; its OK to slow down, always stretch and, focus on progress and a peaceful mind. But even on self imposed "rest days" I still want to lift, jump, run, etc because I want to maybe get those abs just a day sooner. Sometimes I realize that I need to slow down when soreness makes it hurts to sit/walk or when my gym schedule means have time to see friends or read a book. Even then, I'm thinking about when I can return to the gym.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love how I've gotten stronger and healthier over the years and I <i>love</i> working out and being active! I don't love how I feel when I'm letting, forcing, myself to rest. I don't enjoy feeling stressed that I decided to do cardio instead of lift, or x instead of y, or that I only did 6 exercises when I was shooting for 8. And I don't enjoy that I spend so much time thinking about what I put into my stomach ("but I need <i>protein</i> for the <i>gainz!...</i>When can I have carbs?...I should stop eating so much peanut better").</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Focusing on "progress not perfection"is something I'd like to achieve. I'm <i>really</i> enjoying my fitness journey and I'm looking for ways to be more accepting of what my everyday body looks and feels like. I still want to keep pushing myself while appreciating the benefits of my efforts. Not only do I want to be still full mobile at 90 but to also have healthy mindset about fitness as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you have any tips or if you've been in the same place, I'd love to hear your story!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
A review of the Bio Beauty by Nuxe Refreshing Deodorant.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The <b>Bio Beauty by Nuxe Refreshing Deodorant* </b>($13CDN, 50ml) landed in the mailbox and I was faced, again, with the struggle of appreciating natural deodorants. I <i>really</i> want to like you!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some people do <i>crazy</i> things to reduce sweating, like injecting botox into their underarms (<i><b>botox...in your underarms...seriously!</b>)</i> or using treatments where aluminum strength leaves burn marks on the skin. No-one thinks sweating is attractive but come on, its a necessary body function. Completely cancelling sweat or allowing it to flow freely are both unappealing, and that is my dilemma with natural deodorants. I still haven't found a natural deodorant that can keep me dry when compared to a conventional product. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8lJ6Z4F-eKUgQF_XQzbnp9BFnaSehkbGTVp1GGTRhTeINzD5gbul_pZxF3tNPgIiAwwe4BIW7vz_dve13j9RVq56zpnezG7v1HHnp42qjCcl_y7mqN_4wKQuT5yfTPeT8LLoEHx39Y_Gr/s1600/bio-beaute-nuxe-refreshing-Deodorant-24H-review.JPG"></a><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Effective for 24 hours, this odor-neutralizing deodorant does not contain alcohol or aluminum salts." It's not supposed to leave white marks or stains and 85% of users did not find it left a damp feeling.</div>

<b>Ingredients:</b> Organic corsican citron oil extract. 10 essentials oils and 5 floral waters. Absorbent botanical powder. Aloe vera. 98.9% ingredients of natural origin. 44% ingredients derived from organic farming. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The <b>Bio Beauty Refreshing Deodorant</b> doesn't work for me. The rollerball deposits a clear cool feeling liquid that smells lightly green and of sweetened lemons. I can smell the scent during the day; I can't say I enjoy it but this feature is forgivable. The deodorant prevents me from smelling bad but my main issue is the absorbency. The liquid doesn't seem to absorb or dry down and my under arms getting <i>slightly</i><b style="font-style: italic;"> </b>more damp from my own day-to-day light sweating. Some days, I used tissues to dry my underarms during a bathroom break and this was slightly annoying. </div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There is some internal grimacing about how I deposit aluminum into my pores to slow down sweating but so far, that's the main way I've experienced keeping consistently dry. I want to really like you, <b>Refreshing Deodorant</b>. You check the boxes with the whole natural ingredients thing but I just don't stay dry enough.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I may have to let go of being dry if I really want to shift to a natural product but I obviously am not enjoying it. There may yet be something out there that can do what I'm looking for but I haven't found it (though I'm really not looking that hard). So, if you know of a natural deodorant that also works well as an anti-perspirant, please give me a heads up!</div>

<br />
Even with the best of efforts, there is a high chance that I will get sick. Sickness can hit me from nowhere, a big wallop that lands me in bed, snot running out of my sinuses. You're welcome for that image.</div>
<div>
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Low and behold, a couple weeks ago, I was shaking my fist at the goddamn person was who had infected me with germs. If you find yourself in such a situation, there isn't much to do except wait and sleep. But while you wait, you can use a few items to help ease the pain. These are my top "Jenn is Sick" comforts:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Puffs Plus:</b> There is magic in <b>Puffs Plus </b>tissues and if you haven't tried them yet, <i><b>you must.</b></i> My nose gets extremely dried when blowing it 100+ times a day and I will pay the extra premium for these lotioned tissues. I've tried Kleenex with Lotion but they don't compare. <b>Puffs Plus </b>are soft, thick, and don't dry my nose out as quickly or almost at all.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Halls: </b>I like to keep my lungs inside the body with either the honey or eucalyptus <b>Halls</b>. I have no idea why anyone would choose Cherry, the memories of cherry cough syrup are quite enough for me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Soup and Tea</b>: Staying hydrated is never more important than when you're ill. Drinking lots of water, warm tea and soup are the ticket during this time. Miso or Doenjjang soup, Super Ginger of Cold 911 <b>David's Tea</b> are on repeat in times of sickness. </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Drugs: </b>I used to forgo taking over the counter meds when I could but there are some colds that can only be fought with the power of the gods, and any little bit of mortal aid is welcomed. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Carbs: </b>I don't always have an appetite when I'm ill but when I do, I crave <i>carbs</i>. Bread, rice, cereal, sometimes that's all I can keep down or eat. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I hope you haven't gotten ill lately but if you have, give the <b>Puffs Plus</b> a try and I hope you get better soon!</div>

I get stressed when ingredients sit around unused for a <i>long</i> time. Letting food go bad is wasteful. Letting something sit forever, even if its not going to go bad, feels like clutter. I bought a gigantic tub of Medjool dates about....3 months ago, and we still haven't gotten half way through it. I stared at the box for so long, I had to find ways to use them and which didn't involve making more balls (there are two different ball recipes on the blog now...two! <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2016/11/currently-eating-pumpkin-and-protein.html">Here</a> and <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2016/05/easy-energy-power-ball-recipe.html">here</a>).</div>

<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Ingredients</b>:</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
4 tablespoons of chia seeds with 16 tablespoons of water</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
20 medjool dates (400g)</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3 tablespoons of coconut oil</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
300ml of water</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
400g of oats</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Add ons (choose about 300grams of add ons):</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
craisins</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
shaved roasted coconut</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
sunflower seeds</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
chopped walnuts</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2 teaspoons of cinnamon</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Mehthod</b>:</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1. Preheat oven to 400F.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2. Start your chia seed + 16tbs water mixture. Set aside and leave to develop a gel.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3. Melt coconut oil and dates in a pot. Break apart dates with a spatula. Add in the 300ml of water and whisk until smooth.</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
4. In another bowl, combine oats with your add-ons.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
5. Combine date/oil/water mix into your bowl. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
6. Add in your chia gel.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
7. Spread into a pan. Bake for 35 mins.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
8. Let rest 15 mins <i>then </i>cut apart.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The original recipe called for sunflower seeds and raisins. As always, with bars and stuff, I always choose whatever add-ons I have around. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNSHxsGm7_ixSIWPtiymNPUnuFTDXjmkuanyiv9PCBz0YBjWc1R-f-8Dkcn_RBlQvGuU65HH5-lDj-ZY9QLso1shIAdTU7mMpN6UpIS0FpKqZVD-Qdi_GRD0B_Q4zjSi-e1QmaBTNmpxa_/s1600/date-oat-granola.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNSHxsGm7_ixSIWPtiymNPUnuFTDXjmkuanyiv9PCBz0YBjWc1R-f-8Dkcn_RBlQvGuU65HH5-lDj-ZY9QLso1shIAdTU7mMpN6UpIS0FpKqZVD-Qdi_GRD0B_Q4zjSi-e1QmaBTNmpxa_/s1600/date-oat-granola.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I eyeballed the water when mixing the date/oil mixture and wish I hadn't since I ended up with less binder than I needed. I would probably have upped this recipe by at least 1 or 2 more dates as well.</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you wanted, you could probably bake change these into granola instead of bars. If so, I might consider using less water with your dates and not press them down too hard into the pan when baking.</div>

<br />
Its been hard to keep up with Make Up For Ever! They've been rapidly firing out products! I'm already behind but I love this brand so I wanted to share my thoughts on the latest.</div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Make Up For Ever Artist Palette Volume 4 - Shadows </b>($52 CDN)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
9 matte Artist shadows - Black (M-100), Grey Brown (M-620), Chalk (M-126), Wine (M-842), Antique Pink (M-806), Dark Purple Taupe (M-546), Prussian Blue (M-240), Milk Tea (M-536) and Eggshell (M-530) <br />
<br />
Yay, more Artist Shadows but it took a while to convince me that this works as a stand alone palette. I reached for the middle purple row and almost never for the black/grey/white. When I jump around, I found more looks though the purple is still a look focus. The blend ability is good (not great) but I have to rub to deposit color onto the brush. Overall not bad, but unless you can see and enjoy the look options, not a must have. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin598acL9LJMGTTTfR6oEFSm1drciSj04MQzRFXGIMllU5hWYMTBmwBVJm-2aZDCuYtdetA06Cpdcv_fGJv_EeYEZn28UkVsBE5Wp3RXfUIQjzzFwu7wt85oQdLiutyCWTjYHwAhetCpm5/s1600/make-up-for-ever-pro-light-fusion-1-2-review.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin598acL9LJMGTTTfR6oEFSm1drciSj04MQzRFXGIMllU5hWYMTBmwBVJm-2aZDCuYtdetA06Cpdcv_fGJv_EeYEZn28UkVsBE5Wp3RXfUIQjzzFwu7wt85oQdLiutyCWTjYHwAhetCpm5/s1600/make-up-for-ever-pro-light-fusion-1-2-review.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b>
<b>Pro Fusion Highlighter* </b>($48CDN)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2 shades of lightweight highlighters from the Pro Sculpting Duos made of soft shimmer gel powder. It promises to give a subtle sheen with ultimate blendability. Golden Pink for light - medium skin tones and Gold for medium - dark.<br />
<br />
I enjoy that the point of these are not to be crazy "beam my up Scottie" highlights. Nuanced but visible is how I prefer to glow and this formula is great. It has the same baked in gel/powder as the Pro Fusion items and I can lightly pick up color with a duo-fibre brush or use my fingers and swipe for added intensity. I'm happy that MUFE didn't choose with the deeper gold in the original Duos (or maybe they did, and I can't tell?) but I am reaching for the Golden Pink more often right now.</div>

<b>High Precision Lip Pencil </b>($22CDN, 0.04oz)</div>

12 natural shades made of super-emollient oils to boost and enhance lip color application, while keep lips nourished. This promises long-lasting color.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Pro Sculpting Brow Palette</b> ($52CDN, )</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A 4-in-1 palette that grooms, defines, shapes and intensifies brows. It comes in 2 shades (I have shade 2) and includes 3 matte powders (use wet or dry), a highlighter (cream-to-powder), sculpting wax and double-ended applicator).<br />
<br />
This type of brow application scares me. Partly from lack of practice and also because there are too many steps to make this time efficient. The level of control and precision though can't be beat with a powder and wax combo. While I prefer a brow pencil because its quicker, I was happy to see that the color and shape lasted well past a full work day! This little kit is handy to have and the highlighter shade does a good job of adding extra definition to my brows.</div>

<b>Artist Acrylip</b> ($29CDN, )</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Lip paint in 10 bold, buildable shades in a lightweight, non-sticky formula. Promises comfortable wear, nourished lips and flawless color that helps smooth lips. The color is <i>super</i> pigmented so I only dabbed a little onto my inner lips before mushing them around. This method gives a great tinted look which makes these more approachable for me. </div>

<br />
I hope you're well! Just a note that ABZ needs to go on hold for a while. Not entirely sure when we'll be up and running again but a few life changes makes it necessary to take another short break.<br />
<br />
Hang in there!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm really down with this "hygge" idea. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you haven't heard this Danish word, get yourself acquainted. My Danish colleague pronounced it for me ("hooghe") and its <i>so adorable </i>when she says it. It's sentiment of surrounding oneself with warmth, coziness and the good things in life is something we should all take part in.</div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have a few moments of true hygge and one of them is singing along to random songs while lying on the couch. It sounds really lame. I spend an hour laying about, acting as my own karaoke venue. It's not exciting but it makes me feel rested and free of concerns. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was during one of these times that I realized hygge must also be a moment of true contentment. I wanted to intentionally focus on these little content moments because I rush through my day and miss noticing them. Thinking more about it, I came up with: </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Hygge #1:</b> Throwing on my robe in the morning. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My robe is nearly always the first thing I throw when getting up in the morning and when leaving the shower. The sharp distinction between bared skin and fleece protection makes my robe a little treasure of daily comfort.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Hygge #2</b>: Stockinged feet stuffed quickly into rain boots.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Not all cozy feelings need to be indoors. I get something like coziness when I see the pouring rain outside and put on my rain boots. My feet are nice and snug, and the boots make them impermeable to the rain. The rest of me though...maybe not so hyggeligt.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Hygge #3</b>: Talking for three hours on the phone.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am a phone talker and thankfully my closest friends are too. Spending 2-3 unrushed hours laughing and reconnecting reminds me that there are some really awesome people out there and that they are a part of my life.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Hygge #4</b>: Sitting in a cafe, staring out the window, and reading the newspaper. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Going to a cafe with a newspaper or book is one way I allow myself to pause. I often visited Lit Espresso Bar in Toronto but I have yet to find a niche coffee location near me now that isn't super crowded and serves good drink/food. Granted I haven't had much chance to look but I love the relaxed feeling I get when I allow myself this activity.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>What are some ways you get that cozy feeling?</b></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Lately, I've been yearning for that joyful feeling of seeing something really small grow into something really big. I've been thinking about it for days and I know it takes a lot of work, but frankly...yeast scares me. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Every time I've tried to use yeast, my bread-to-be product has </span><i style="text-align: start;">never</i><span style="text-align: start;"> risen. Alton Brown's Good Eats episode on yeast further discouraged me when he goes on about how complicated it can be to start up your yeast, make sure its alive etc etc. I desperately want to make real bread but have mostly settled with quick breads (bread-like items which don't use yeast ie, banana "breads" and other things in loaf pans). </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Can't I get that amazing feeling of risen dough without using yeast? My world for a bread experiment that doesn't involve yeast. That was when I learned that Irish Soda Bread </span><i style="text-align: start;">doesn't use yeast. </i><span style="text-align: start;">BAM. Super satisfying feels of seeing dough come out as bread that's multiples of its baby dough size. Eaten with butter, this is something David devours too easily.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">This bread only takes 5 ingredients, no kneading (not really) and no yeast!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><b>Ingredients:</b><br />4 cups flour</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">1 tbs sugar</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">1 tsp baking soda</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
1 tsp salt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
2 cups buttermilk (I didn't have this and used a mix of 3/4 plain yogurt with 1/4 cup almond milk x2. you can also just use water)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<b>Optional:</b></div>
1 tbs caraway<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
1 tbs raisins</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<b>Method</b>:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
1. Preheat oven to 425F. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
2. Combine dry ingredients in bowl.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
3. Make a well in your dry ingredients, pour in buttermilk.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
4. Fold flour into milk to form soft dough.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
5. Turn out onto a surface and <i>lightly</i> knead (for like 10 secs. This isn't a bread that can take much kneading).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
6. Score top of bread with an X (INTEGRAL. This allows the steam from the bread to escape as it rises).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
7. Bake for 35 mins. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This bread goes great with stews or just some salted butter. I didn't know that you could make such an nice dinner companion so easily. I was so encouraged by making this bread that I am reinvigorated to consider yeast breads. I was going to make some challah but I used up a bunch of flour making the soda bread so I'm just going to have to save my yeast-bread adventure for another day.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk728-brkd59mm1P7EOeqrW10I8pe8zgsTVdOg5bYrckjeuqQ3Wo9osp1cWSphR_JxcOsm3xNukPinOWWiPgvifbQc9BEbbsWe5LHaMg5ErtgMe-6ykG8Sl1uE5tIWs534FIWzuJ44kxGE/s1600/P1200233.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk728-brkd59mm1P7EOeqrW10I8pe8zgsTVdOg5bYrckjeuqQ3Wo9osp1cWSphR_JxcOsm3xNukPinOWWiPgvifbQc9BEbbsWe5LHaMg5ErtgMe-6ykG8Sl1uE5tIWs534FIWzuJ44kxGE/s1600/P1200233.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I missed my third quarter decluttering review. By the time I realized this, I had mostly given up on controlling the makeup situation. But a nice reminder from the women's shelter that I donate to gave me energy to do a final push to get good unused and almost new items to ladies in need.</div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Still though, I won't say this project has been an all out success. Roadblocks kept me from really letting things go and at times I had spontaneous urges to just get rid of everything all at once. Neither are sustainable attitudes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<b></b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><b>Roadblocks:</b></b></div>
<b>
</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Brand/luxury: But its <i>DIOR</i>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fun colors: <i>Maybe</i> one day I'll use it...one day I <i>will </i>use that green lipstick...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Past decisions: When I bought this, I REALLY wanted it. Now, it doesn't quite work but I can't let it go because I paid for it.</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They're different: I swear these 5 shades of slightly different mauve, are <i>just</i> different enough.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Things I'm Still Learning:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I never use the things I didn't love to begin with. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't actually use fun colors; I don't actually make creative looks</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I need to have makeup, but I don't need to have it all.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't need things <i>now</i>. Can you please wait until you finish something?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Purging Regrets:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
(Even though there are some regret, there is no good reason why I don't have something to replace these)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2015/10/art-deco-mystical-forest-collection-review.html">These Artdeco Shadows</a>: the colors worked <i>so</i> well on the lids</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2016/01/fotd-14-because-matching-isnt-bad-thing.html">Pur Minerals Epic Illusion Palette</a>: this looks like, whatever, but it is so easy and useful. If I were braver, I could probably live off of this.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Overall, I can't say I regret much though I have technically decluttered the MUFE Flash and Lorac Pro Palettes and yet they are still sitting in a bag because I'm still not sure...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Final Numbers</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
(The Real Deal)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This chart only looks at some products per item. A palette is counted as 1 item, rather than 20 different eyeshadow items. Product Types in Bold are a sum of the un-bolded items and some items which are not shown.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the end:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I <b>acquired a total of 510 products </b>(color makeup, nail related, perfumes and tools) this year and actually <b>purged 498 products. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>91.6%</b> of acquisitions were PR <b>but</b> only <b>46.2%</b> of my remaining stash is from PR. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I <b>started with 712 product</b>s and ended with 733, a <b>net increase of 21</b>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Biggest decrease was in nails (net -28)</b> and <b>biggest increase was in the eye category (net +32).</b> Lips (net +23) came in as a close second and face products were net +7 (with a surprising acquisition of 18 foundations this year. 18!!).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't think I didn't as badly as I thought but I was really hoping to make a greater dent. I'm not much worse than when I began and this has reaffirmed the obvious that allowing PR products increases the difficulty of removing items. The "Still Learning" items above seem even more true after taking a look at the numbers and its still very clear that eye products, especially shadows, are my major weakness. This year I did a slightly better job of not saying yes to every PR opportunity and this has help a little but I need to redouble my efforts if I really want to see change.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Toronto taught me that dry hair is a real affliction. Until I lived there, I never gave my hair a second thought. The wonderful temperate climate of Vancouver keep my hair tamed and generally "regular". The near-Siberian temperatures of Toronto had me battling static fly-aways and brittle strands. I never knew I had to care for my hair until I lived a winter in TO and tried <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2014/01/loreal-re-nutirtion-nourishing-cream.html">this</a> and <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2015/02/loreal-total-repair-extreme-shampoo-instant-miracle-review.html">this</a> to solve my problems. So if you are in that situation, consider these three options to protect, reconstruct or thicken your hair in crisis.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<u>Experience:</u><b> </b>There is a process to using this; shampoo, treat (leave on for 5 mins), shampoo and condition. You only have to treat once a week so its not cumbersome and you do feel like your strands are stronger. At a drugstore price, this is worth considering if you have some seriously damaged hair and the scent is quite nice too.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<u>Key ingredients:</u> Moringa extract and Red Micro-Algae</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<u>Intended results:</u> Softens and smooths dry hair, protecting it against future dryness, removing pollutants and stimulating cell regeneration</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<u>Experience:</u> The shampoo has nearly the same oil texture of the <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2015/09/shu-uemura-cleansing-oil-shampoo-essence-absolue-ample-angora-review.html">Shu Cleansing Oil Shampoo</a> but with more lather and less viscosity. I was going to dislike it for that reason but it rinses out cleaner and my hair is <i>super soft</i> the next day.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
-----</div>
<br />
Overall the <b>Shu</b> was better than expected and the next day results are something to be pleased about. The <b>Nexxus </b>option is a <i>great </i>drugstore by for those who may be experiencing damaged hair. The <b>Kerastase</b> user experience was really pleasant and I did get some volume. I'm not sure its worth the price tag though. Of the three, I'd enjoy the <b>Nexxus</b> as a treatment and the<b> Shu</b> for everyday.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDaSD-dkf5bcuK4d7JXtEPmMW437-hO_dx-IV6jtFLfhIvAphAsrhIgYaI_0AJTYybbhBqkhS66HVXJTdRteDWmLab8L2T7L6-qViwcNCY3_AYhoW8wHBF4-qudT7530cfBDlT6iaRUBJE/s1600/P1210135.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDaSD-dkf5bcuK4d7JXtEPmMW437-hO_dx-IV6jtFLfhIvAphAsrhIgYaI_0AJTYybbhBqkhS66HVXJTdRteDWmLab8L2T7L6-qViwcNCY3_AYhoW8wHBF4-qudT7530cfBDlT6iaRUBJE/s1600/P1210135.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My brother, Arthur, has a special kind of lazy. The skin on his face might be bone dry, using anything like cream might cause stinging, and he would <i>really</i> rather it all just be better but...he won't moisturize. "I just don't like the way it <i>feels</i>!" With his logic, the feeling of lotion on his face, is worse, than knowing the top layers are mimicking the topography of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atacama_Desert">Atacama Deser</a>t. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a>The situation must have gotten bad enough because he finally reached out to me. When I asked why he didn't just moisturize, "It's just like, this weird layer of stuff. I don't like it." Really, what did he expect? So I put my mind to what could be minimally detectable when applied <i>and</i> easy to use. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The answer is sprays.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hydrating formulas in a spray or liquid form fit both criteria and digging through my stash, I found travel sized items which would give him a small moisture boost. Watching his eyes widen when I told him that all he needed to do was spray made me feel something close to a <i>eureka</i>. I also threw in a light cream in case he wanted to "graduate" to something that would actually solve his problem more efficiently.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I chose:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner</b>: An ultra light toner with humectants that helps smooth and refresh the skin.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Etude House True Relief Moist Mist Toner: </b>This line has the full set of emulsion, lotion etc but the mist option seems to be the only thing Arthur wants to tolerate. The line is supposed to provide deep moisture for dry and sensitive skin.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Hada Labo Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion: </b>This had a key ingredient I felt Arthur <i>needed</i> to use. If Hyaluronic Acid can't help him...then we've all be drinking the Kool-Aid. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Etude House True Relief Moist Emulsion: </b>I added this <i>just </i>in case Arthur decided to try something more effective. Still though, I had to make sure it still had the lightest texture possible. An emulsion fits that bill.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Arthur hasn't reported back and I'm sure I'll have to check in to see if he bothered to try but it felt nice to be unexpectedly asked for help! I'm hoping I can save another male from trashing his skin/not caring about skincare. We'll see!</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMUmmAX72_mHpR4XEFXJGPUAqsgka0LWtV9g7BT7Q0LrPxeLpWyM9OvQh8xi9MSdNm4WjuAgN52zmNmh_9SF4OtUgx12_Met1BiwyLSFDVB7Zn6mZIn5RF9m5cpVuD5K8J-BawEe6Latc5/s1600/P1210373.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMUmmAX72_mHpR4XEFXJGPUAqsgka0LWtV9g7BT7Q0LrPxeLpWyM9OvQh8xi9MSdNm4WjuAgN52zmNmh_9SF4OtUgx12_Met1BiwyLSFDVB7Zn6mZIn5RF9m5cpVuD5K8J-BawEe6Latc5/s1600/P1210373.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really am hopeless; best intentions aren't enough to hold me back. It happened. Even when I said I would buy less, and especially buy less makeup, I made a beauty purchase.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The re-promotion of my favorite face wash drew me into Sephora but what really cinched the purchase was seeing a little red box of <b>BITE</b> finally restocked. My hands shot out faster than my mind could caution and my feet took me swiftly to the check out.</div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
I bought:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizYDdDwvdxi57mZFNWgNbIT0p0ohPQ6UxeoJyr1guCA42MvVdz6ECGFNPatNZvIH7fOKRgwbxqIhBEqmF5dWWCbjMXpuOyeqwsF-mrTTeCWKUIqOvQmVN01qFt2jalWuctrSfvwzE2hLPq/s1600/tatcha-kyoto-cleanse.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizYDdDwvdxi57mZFNWgNbIT0p0ohPQ6UxeoJyr1guCA42MvVdz6ECGFNPatNZvIH7fOKRgwbxqIhBEqmF5dWWCbjMXpuOyeqwsF-mrTTeCWKUIqOvQmVN01qFt2jalWuctrSfvwzE2hLPq/s1600/tatcha-kyoto-cleanse.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Philosophy's Purity Made Simple </b>(at the sale price of $15!): At this price point, Purity has become my HG cleanser. I think I showed restraint by just getting one. It takes a little under half a year to finish a 360ml bottle and I'm still near full on the one I started last month. Along with the other cleansers still in my skincare drawer, I'm pretty stocked up.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>BITE's Perfect Bite Set </b>($29CDN): The <b>Bite</b> sets really have to be one of the best holiday buys and though I've <i>barely made a dent</i><b style="font-style: italic;"> </b>in the one I bought 3 years ago (for shame, Jenn...) I've been giving serious woo-y eyes at the latest. This thing has been sold out for months (which was such a god send)! And <i>then I saw it,</i> just two, set inside its own little recessed display...and my brain went <i>fuck it</i><b style="font-style: italic;"> </b>and that was that.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Tatcha's Kyoto Cleanse Set </b>($32CDN): Powder cleansers were a new discovery this year and as Tatcha grew in popularity I've wanted to try their <b>Classic Rice Enzyme Powder</b>. While only holding the two above products, I saw this set along the cashier aisles by the cashiers and became a living example of why visual merchandising and relying on human impulsivity works.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFcrHUdxuHthZPgqYDU_R1cGVfMeLl0hPlyLDFO4q9IeFgdhr6cqG-wCplVPIEd9r3EepfpgHlV4nPyZNASNhJ54H_E5e871wy-rHX0pqTY9Twd_MwErWqd9kDSNNSgsX0xkTDLaiEYv9p/s1600/bite-the-perfect-set.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFcrHUdxuHthZPgqYDU_R1cGVfMeLl0hPlyLDFO4q9IeFgdhr6cqG-wCplVPIEd9r3EepfpgHlV4nPyZNASNhJ54H_E5e871wy-rHX0pqTY9Twd_MwErWqd9kDSNNSgsX0xkTDLaiEYv9p/s1600/bite-the-perfect-set.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Overall, I don't feel too bad, though David gave a rather long "Why.........?!" when I showed him the lipsticks. I don't know why I keep bothering to show him but I get too excited and have to tell <i>someone. </i>I know its crazy but in my perfect world, I think I would get rid of all my make up products and get "better for me" items...but then I get caught up in the marketing and such and I find myself falling in love with more conventional makeup items and having a hard time ridding myself of anything in my possession. The struggles.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Daily Zen: </b>Something I'd like to do is to live more "real life" and not the "internet life" but there is a lot about apps, phones, the internet that is purposefully designed to be addictive. <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2016/11/the-binge-breaker/501122/">Here's an interesting article about a movement towards "time well spent" and whether programmers have an obligation towards maximizing life experiences rather than in-app time. </a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It's self evident why a stick highlighter works well for my brows, cupids bow and lower lash line. No brush necessary, a swipe with a stick and a blend with my finger tips makes for quick work. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I don't always find the same ease with other stick-like products. Thinking of all the stick shadows I own, I only really use <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2016/05/burberry-eye-color-contour-review-natural-dusty-mauve-swatch.html">Burberry</a> and <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2016/04/maybelline-color-tattoo-concentrated-crayon-review.html">Maybelline</a> consistently. Even then, its probably only because they're the only shadows in my gym locker makeup kit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have lots of powder highlighters but by far, a stick highlighter is my most preferred format. I've been using the <a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2015/11/burberry-earthy-blush-and-luminous-pen-review.html"><b>Burberry Highlighting Luminous Pen</b> in <b>Nude Radiance*</b></a>, <b><a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2016/07/estee-edits-product-review.html">Estee Lauder Hi Lo Stylo</a>*</b> (which is also a<i> great</i> contouring stick) and a <i>really </i>old <b>Benefit Watt's Up</b> sample (or was it a birthday perk from Sephora...I can't even remember now). These are all the perfect color and shape to give my brows, cupids bow and lower lash line highlighted and might give you reason to reconsider the lowly stick highlighter as a necessary item in your kit.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's crazy that I got these in August, that they were for a fall release and I'm posting them in...December. I have an amazing lag time of 4 months. Though slated for autumn, these spring colors are not the deeper orange and burgundy shades that I tend to see around the proposed release time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEhYlkDBfUYxdiVCuNx0m1P85_6D34S0Y2sKqiouoDs0yh1cnnVX1tWZt0_-3q9AmuAzGVq93xjs6TUYYIl8jmc4hCsc1bK4ol5GpTEItuwVQk1Kcr-NENczFtPwStml-L4AF53DGeLtAS/s1600/paul-and-joe-eye-color-cs-102-autumn-leaves.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEhYlkDBfUYxdiVCuNx0m1P85_6D34S0Y2sKqiouoDs0yh1cnnVX1tWZt0_-3q9AmuAzGVq93xjs6TUYYIl8jmc4hCsc1bK4ol5GpTEItuwVQk1Kcr-NENczFtPwStml-L4AF53DGeLtAS/s1600/paul-and-joe-eye-color-cs-102-autumn-leaves.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Colors aside, the names of these products are appropriately autumnal. <b>Snuggle Up*</b>, <b>Autumn Leaves*</b>, and <b>Chill in the Air* </b>complete the picture of a delightful and cozy fall season. The<b> Autumn Leaves* </b>peach trio, housed in a lovely printed round cardboard tub, isn't exceptionally unique but its a solid choice. The formula is middling in the stiff to butter range. Swatching well, I still felt that a few brown layers were needed to produce enough contrast on the eyes. All that effort though showcased that these blend well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYp62b6P_hs1lzkiQluOpB5C1YpXOCnT2lJuuqys9UtIUnWv5NXpWh6UoLkI_UgIkVKHg2PUZig0ma3DE4VIQiC-nuEVhdqg-CErxK3YUomzn92Ouh2TrPFDW8sPOoSe2uvOFqoZJtKJNC/s1600/paul-and-joe-lipstick-cs-101-snuggle-up.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYp62b6P_hs1lzkiQluOpB5C1YpXOCnT2lJuuqys9UtIUnWv5NXpWh6UoLkI_UgIkVKHg2PUZig0ma3DE4VIQiC-nuEVhdqg-CErxK3YUomzn92Ouh2TrPFDW8sPOoSe2uvOFqoZJtKJNC/s1600/paul-and-joe-lipstick-cs-101-snuggle-up.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<b>Chill in the Air*</b> gives a glowy light pink leaning peach cheek tint. It swatched really glowy on my arm but its diffusible when applied and doesn't look frosty when worn. I'm really not a cat person (really) but the print and cat shaped blush balls <i>are</i> pretty notable. <b>Snuggle Up*</b> was a real pleasure to use. Its got the right amount of movement and creaminess. A nice thin pigmented layer without feeling like a waxy or oil cake. It doesn't have that stiff wax quality that gives me that super budge proof lip feel but the formula doesn't fail short in comfort. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Overall, <b>Paul and Joe*</b> has produced solid make up choices that everyone would easily find usable and workable in their daily lives. The incredible aesthetic quality of the pieces are an additional selling point in acquiring these products. It gives me a little tweak of happy feels when I see those cute cardboard packages sitting on my desk. You can find these at select Shoppers Drug Marts!</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhminiRls4dNHj9Og9CXu2xPM1-sOJgpTfXhA9tU5o-UHgt_NVsWXEyiZuwAlcUB02w8csyAQKhCtG2-CHQbDgTCkdfpMS4dYhIdaM7alC0vll-oxNxtl0vychQHkwvtUgNryJtYoWhZQET/s1600/P1200636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhminiRls4dNHj9Og9CXu2xPM1-sOJgpTfXhA9tU5o-UHgt_NVsWXEyiZuwAlcUB02w8csyAQKhCtG2-CHQbDgTCkdfpMS4dYhIdaM7alC0vll-oxNxtl0vychQHkwvtUgNryJtYoWhZQET/s1600/P1200636.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've loved many things from Kat Von D and I thought the <b>Lock-It Foundation* </b>($42CDN, 30ml) was going to be something crazy good. High coverage, matte finish, and 24 hour wear are intense promises and I've read many positive reviews. Don't let my preferences hold you back from covering up but recent explorations with the <b>Foundation* </b>sets another tick against full coverage foundations. </div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Shades 43 </b>and <b>46</b> arrived at my door but neither suited my skin. <b>43 Light Warm* </b>was too pale and <b>46 Light Cool* </b>was too pale and pink.<b> </b>No face photos here because a) I got lazy and b) they just didn't work with my skin color. There are enough reviews now that you can go see how it wears on other. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The formula so <i>amazingly</i> and completely unifies your face shade; be aware of getting the wrong color. <b>43</b> made me look too ghostlike and really flat, adding in contours, blush and highlights was mandatory to return my features back to the realm of human. You can see how it compares to the <b>Make Up For Ever Water Blend Foundation* </b>in<b> Y245 </b>(which is my matched shade).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEOA0nqgEkaMsLOxUS2GLIjQ5N8IJ6-1Xm0Unrb7eWJX5nWZX-xNl39mNw2FZa0HtxOr6FElbZMrSXkOpjVh3h9yOFQdfadBrA3AhFvbW_3q5sArAWRiik9DlNpQIZCXia2TEzEhieMK7u/s1600/kat-von-d-lock-it-foundation-43-46-swatch.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEOA0nqgEkaMsLOxUS2GLIjQ5N8IJ6-1Xm0Unrb7eWJX5nWZX-xNl39mNw2FZa0HtxOr6FElbZMrSXkOpjVh3h9yOFQdfadBrA3AhFvbW_3q5sArAWRiik9DlNpQIZCXia2TEzEhieMK7u/s1600/kat-von-d-lock-it-foundation-43-46-swatch.JPG" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One pump is way too much for my face...<i>way too much. </i>The foundation has noticeable presence (and scent). Thinking back to the Revlon Colorstay Whipped, this just feels like a feature of fuller coverage options. The thick cream formula takes more blending strokes with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to work in.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
No lies, I didn't wear this for too long when I did bother but it felt bullet proof on my skin. It also felt too thick, and the scent was strong. Even though this isn't such a fullsome review, I wanted to bring up this product to diversify some of the views about it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I prefer breathable thin layers of foundation and don't wear an 'Instagram face'. The <b>Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation*</b> was, outrightly, against these preferences. Still, I thought maybe the wear time and quality would convert me to trying something more bullet proof than my sheerer choices. But at the end of the day, I can't say that this an HG foundation for me.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTGXgOabvriaPdjDYISOevArP1LRdBTnGdpWRUOFpaU_Lpt9Hqh1f1y9Pu_MVzG78V_EbOwMhDIrtdtLlozqAImFInqAPIsTr2lu9vSzKx7DxWhJJhCuJ8dRzWbhADoKRCUvZ85GR2ceHJ/s1600/vichy-hand-nail-cream-review.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTGXgOabvriaPdjDYISOevArP1LRdBTnGdpWRUOFpaU_Lpt9Hqh1f1y9Pu_MVzG78V_EbOwMhDIrtdtLlozqAImFInqAPIsTr2lu9vSzKx7DxWhJJhCuJ8dRzWbhADoKRCUvZ85GR2ceHJ/s1600/vichy-hand-nail-cream-review.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My arms and hands are becoming more speckled with age and every time I discover a new dot, its too soon since the previous. These surprise discoveries are making me consider going glam and wearing full arm length gloves like <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dita_Von_Teese">Ms Dita von Teese</a> but that's really not my look. Since it takes years for spots to come out, this is latent punishment for years of sunscreen neglect.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
The only thing to do now is to find a hand cream that dulls spots and also protects. I've got <b>Vichy's Hand and Nail Cream* </b>($10CDN, 40ml) which promises hands that look 3-4 years younger (that's like...a 25 year old's hands!)...and you know, reduce fine lines, reduce dark spots. ALL GOOD THINGS. It has Vitamin C, natural oils, Ceramid and SPF 15. I'm very hopeful that this will prevent more pigmentation but at this point, I want to bring out the big guns and wear SPF bajillion.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXzKA8neU7Y6gXPVFFVgwj-gELFpcCyWTYqsYphDiJQvzWgOKH5_5Kdff82T26Tl7vdvhf0v06AQt3KXud5d3H-a5SivWjrAXyNiLLydgUXtuqxzZ5dG3APg0OoZATHsVkHru9vFwSXVWa/s1600/vichy-hand-nail-cream-review-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXzKA8neU7Y6gXPVFFVgwj-gELFpcCyWTYqsYphDiJQvzWgOKH5_5Kdff82T26Tl7vdvhf0v06AQt3KXud5d3H-a5SivWjrAXyNiLLydgUXtuqxzZ5dG3APg0OoZATHsVkHru9vFwSXVWa/s1600/vichy-hand-nail-cream-review-1.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But let's be real and see if I even remember to put this on before I head out onto the water to row (which I'm sure is the main culprit for spots this last summer). Nowadays, rowing have been rain drenched so I'm not too worried but I recall all the hours I spent in the summer with no arm sunscreen...it makes me feel all the regrets (don't even get me started on the wicked farmers tan that has <i>just</i> started to fade...).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So I'm scanning the crowd and asking for options with higher SPF and maybe a natural version as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Do you know any hand creams with sunscreen? And better yet, a safe-for-you version (no parabens, silicons etc etc) that doesn't cost the arms I'm trying to protect?</b></div>

It takes <i>forever</i> to finish bottles of skincare so an update every...11 months (<a href="http://abeautifulzen.blogspot.ca/2016/02/skincare-shakeup.html">my last one was in Feb</a>) feels ok to me. I haven't switched tactics, still going strong on anti-pigmentation and hydration but there's a renewed focus on eye care. As my colleague once told me, once 30 hits, I better be slathering on all the anti-aging potions. Best to start now, I figure.</div>

<b>Serum</b>: Skinceuticals Metacell B3*</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Hydrate</b>: Avon Skin so Soft SPF 15 for Neck and Chest*, Avene Tolerance Emulsion*</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Eyes</b>: Dermalogica Total Eye Care SPF 15*</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
I can see the end is in sight for the <b>DHC*</b>, maybe half a month's more use left. The <b>Skinceuticals Metacell B3*</b> has been a really nice emulsive treatment to use. It's filled up with Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), lightweight and supposed to help with skin firmness, reduce blotchiness and strengthen the skin's barrier.<br />
<br />
A few weeks ago, I over exfoliated the tops of my cheeks leaving the skin broken and dry, <b>Avene Tolerance Emulsion*</b> literally rehydrated them in 2 days. This stuff doesn't have a thick winter cream consistency but it acts just as heavy duty. <br />
<br />
Because I always want to avoid turkey-neck, I've been using the <b>Avon Skin So Soft SPF 15</b>. Sometimes I put that on my face instead of the Avene. It has a nice scent but I'm not sure how elegant this formula is since I noticed some 'bad for you' stuff were right up first in the ingredients label (pegs, silicones...).<br />
<br />
I'm still using the <b>Dermalogica Total Eye Care</b>; I've was barely using before. Hopefully to finally get through some of it this time around. I use it in the mornings because of the SPF.<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Night</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Wash</b>: Philosophy Purity</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Serum</b>: Skinceuticals Metacell B3*</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Hydrate</b>: Estee Lauder Cyber White Moisture Cream* or Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Oil*<br /><b>Eyes</b>: Avene Physiolift Eyes*</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Truthfully, the <b>Avene Physiolift Eyes</b> may be too intense for my not-so-aged eye region. When I was learning about the Physiolift line, it sounded very effective and intense, for people who already had lines and wrinkles. I use the <i>tiniest</i> amount of this (because its so thick and maybe overkill) but no negative effects just yet so I'll be continuing on.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I didn't like <b>Philosophy's Purity </b>when I tried it 5 years ago. Some flip switched because I'm been dedicated to it for a year now, especially when its on sale for $13 during Black Friday at Sephora. I bought two bottles last year and I think that was the year's<i> best</i> beauty purchase. As moisturizer, I use <b>Estee Lauder's Cyber White Moisture Cream*</b> more often than <b>Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Oil. </b>The Kiehl's my 'Hail Mary' during times of extremely dehydrated skin. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
You will be so surprised to know how long these photos have been sitting in my Drafts. So long in fact that most of these have since been purged from my collection. While I had such high hopes for the <b>Illamasqua Cream Pigments</b><i>, </i>I realize now that I should have known they wouldn't have ended up in my permanent collection.</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOnipEfozrYPgGnks6jJRp_8egFxe9w03GYyRCrSe7yvsnlx7HK7b79Z8DM3RcjoG4fsF765JGrSDpERF8gSYUBMd8ZP8TKZGgbSqOVMD8LaMZuWUofDPST5B_yx3dcWGraPwPuuU9Ktrn/s1600/illamasqua-cream-pigment-swatch-review-2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="illamasqua cream pigments deliurm bedaub androgen dab review swatch" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOnipEfozrYPgGnks6jJRp_8egFxe9w03GYyRCrSe7yvsnlx7HK7b79Z8DM3RcjoG4fsF765JGrSDpERF8gSYUBMd8ZP8TKZGgbSqOVMD8LaMZuWUofDPST5B_yx3dcWGraPwPuuU9Ktrn/s1600/illamasqua-cream-pigment-swatch-review-2.JPG" title="" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I bought the shades <b>Delirium</b>, <b>Androgen</b>, <b>Bedaub</b> and <b>Dab</b>. When I did, I thought that <b>Delirium</b> would make a great contour shade, that <b>Bedaub</b> would be a good color corrector and I just liked <b>Androgen</b> and <b>Dab</b>. The issue with these isn't in the product but that I bought them without a realistic understanding of what my makeup life was. Merely hoping to play with pigments didn't mean that I would actually follow through and buying them didn't necessary seal the deal that I would. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Delirium</b> indeed would have been a good contour for an overall cool mauve purple makeup look if I ever bothered to wear more creative looks outside the house. <b>Bedaub</b> was actually not that amazing as a color corrector because of its cream formula; not understanding that color <i>and</i> texutre makes color correcting work led to that small downfall. In some ways, looking at it now, <b>Dab</b> would be an awesome under foundation brightener but that sort of layering is not part of my daily practice. While many are perfecting the trifecta of bronzing, contour and highlighting for perfect Instragram faces (with a real life result of a plastic doll, cake face of makeup) or incorporating "baking" into makeup setting, I have to keep remembering that my make up life is simple, breathable and true to my real face. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir_FSR1bjLxm9uxMYoMqPw06tFl4YIanW0Y1q_59GdgeGFJsOSp5EHExCs9SesvR2MCstt0s0XOY9MEwNTx0MFHchBeUXK0NGWrJJAz-hq_e1kU8Ue1rz5idlzpo85tC_8NCZkQAzlUvH6/s1600/illamasqua-cream-pigment-swatch-bedaub-androgen-dab-Deliriu.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="illamasqua cream pigments deliurm bedaub androgen dab review swatch" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir_FSR1bjLxm9uxMYoMqPw06tFl4YIanW0Y1q_59GdgeGFJsOSp5EHExCs9SesvR2MCstt0s0XOY9MEwNTx0MFHchBeUXK0NGWrJJAz-hq_e1kU8Ue1rz5idlzpo85tC_8NCZkQAzlUvH6/s1600/illamasqua-cream-pigment-swatch-bedaub-androgen-dab-Deliriu.JPG" title="" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have kept is <b>Androgen</b> because it makes for a wonderful coral cream blush. Blush, sometime I <i>do</i> use and know how to use which isn't why I'm surprised that its the only one that's made it. You have no idea how much I hemmed and hawed over giving the rest of these up but ultimately I had to take a hard look into why I had kept them and to stick true to my makeup life. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQSU6v-bGqPSMxt36sbP9LkgtVCmjFWXvdQPDZGlMn11Gk5iDhdDLNUe7bT3uIvNnbyj_gqwx1oLqeSAt2ocEJsx7qMujD70vjpm6mzURjQPWzK1qghMsE3T2VtcQ_vJCO2Y_LybcXOHt4/s1600/illamasqua-cream-pigment-swatch-review-3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="illamasqua cream pigments deliurm bedaub androgen dab review swatch" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQSU6v-bGqPSMxt36sbP9LkgtVCmjFWXvdQPDZGlMn11Gk5iDhdDLNUe7bT3uIvNnbyj_gqwx1oLqeSAt2ocEJsx7qMujD70vjpm6mzURjQPWzK1qghMsE3T2VtcQ_vJCO2Y_LybcXOHt4/s1600/illamasqua-cream-pigment-swatch-review-3.JPG" title="" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
That being said, that lesson is one I'm still battling with as I continue to declutter. There are some creative colors that give me so much joy even if I won't ever use them and I'm learning to allow for a few of these but not too much. I think I still have <b>Dab</b> somewhere and it was the perfect pale purple I needed for a makeup look during halloween. I take a few steps forwards and also a few steps back but overall, as I continue this exercise, I hoping that I'll reach a collection that is authentic to my make up habits and preferences.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Aw3ekIDQcf_lUi1U3pw9TIYX6sioltrlMU-FxU0SgkllY5zguAByOj11gHhpPjoMBdJ_5Dz50NLm4aB4wh0wHgxfWDdxUkRf8RwVwcLV3-1tdvqp7oKWBcvGAscK4WWck-ifrhtCbxj9/s1600/P1190737.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Aw3ekIDQcf_lUi1U3pw9TIYX6sioltrlMU-FxU0SgkllY5zguAByOj11gHhpPjoMBdJ_5Dz50NLm4aB4wh0wHgxfWDdxUkRf8RwVwcLV3-1tdvqp7oKWBcvGAscK4WWck-ifrhtCbxj9/s1600/P1190737.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Now that its winter time, I apply my makeup in the dark. Well...that's an exaggeration, but my 7am bedroom might as well be a cave. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The lack of overhead lights and conscientiousness for David's sleep means minimal lighting when I put on my daily fotd. Now and then, I'm faced (literally) with my poor execution while taking a bathroom break at work. Bathroom breaks are a moment of truth; the first moment when I can see myself fully, in a mix of daylight and fluorescents. At 9am, the reality is revealed that I'm going to be walking around all day with colors that <i>super don't working for me</i>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHVkAt4XLvcHsuPwCxbRW8JviCzr1lKQhCoJ5nU8LHKqWFLMwnAgyD3JVH4VEnpQQSzOWxCLltPu95MatosFB0wm7yC2ky6XzeXKG9AVRJ_tkqWJ7F7GhC0UXZyRQQVuO0tfaMH8Xe_x84/s1600/P1190739.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHVkAt4XLvcHsuPwCxbRW8JviCzr1lKQhCoJ5nU8LHKqWFLMwnAgyD3JVH4VEnpQQSzOWxCLltPu95MatosFB0wm7yC2ky6XzeXKG9AVRJ_tkqWJ7F7GhC0UXZyRQQVuO0tfaMH8Xe_x84/s1600/P1190739.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Office lights never lie. In fact, they don't lie <i>and</i> they don't flatter. Office lighting is that bitter cousin which tells the flat out truth and gives unwanted critical feedback "for your own good". At this point, the daily bathroom reveal is almost a game. Will it be Door #1, awesome makeup! Or Door #2, oh god, please learn how to blend.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmvkuRGsdSzTT7EC3Zi7Tut5srGzPq_Domu1um9EjGkRy124Dw8P8ZcF-nO0aXr8agocdowG606sJKEo_3JpdVkkIovm7PMcYl3rZ7BLdfU7YCfGO_UtXOcZyG38U8qqQb-1zdnuo8ZnTr/s1600/P1190740.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmvkuRGsdSzTT7EC3Zi7Tut5srGzPq_Domu1um9EjGkRy124Dw8P8ZcF-nO0aXr8agocdowG606sJKEo_3JpdVkkIovm7PMcYl3rZ7BLdfU7YCfGO_UtXOcZyG38U8qqQb-1zdnuo8ZnTr/s1600/P1190740.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The more awful thing about office lighting is that <i>even when</i> my make up is on its A-game, fluorescents can cast shadows and wash me out, resulting in sandbag eyes and "Are you tired?" questions. You can win...its just a little difficult and the color tones are set against you. The best you can do is rise to the challenge. At least my office has a lot of natural light that comes through during summer, but during winter, it's always a bit trickier. Who knew that office struggles could come from more than just office work and politics.</div>

It's a great pleasure to get little beauty packages through the mailbox and it's always neat to be introduced to a brand for the very first time. I don't always say yes to brands that reach out. There are SO many new brands and they just keep coming. I used to want to try any brand that was launching but it presented the 'paradox of choice' and I'm pretty OK to let some things pass on. I did say "I do" to these new brands though. So here is a quick introduction to <b>Teeez Cosmetics</b>, <b>Maison Jacynthe </b>and <b>3B Box</b>.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Reason I said "Yes": </b>This launched at The Bay with media attention from David Lackie. This wasn't surprising; he edits The Bay's beauty magazine and it makes sense for him to cross promote. Business strategy aside, I was curious if it would be any good.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
David Lackie of Canadian beauty editing fame introduced this on his instagram; he kept saying it reminded him of MAC. <span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-weight: inherit;">Teeze Cosmetics is an edgy artistry beauty brand based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The packaging feels bulky but the products perform as they should. The shadow formula worked well through the day over primer, not buttery or dry. The lipsticks gave good color. Overall, these are solid options but nothing really stands out of as must have.</span><br />

<b>Reason </b><b>I said "Yes": </b>If its natural and its awesome, why not support a Canadian brand?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't know anything about Jacynthe René and I'm not often swayed when a celebrity's personal philosophy is used as a brand selling point. But thoughts about 'chemicals' and other 'bad for you stuff' has been popping into my mind now and then, and I'm ready to try more natural products. The shadows blend really well and the lipstick was quite pigmented. The lipstick had medium level glide, not a super waxy stick formula but just enough to feel pulled together and to leave a good slide of lip color. I <i>love</i> the lipstick's wood and metal packaging!</div>

<b>Philosophy: </b>Monthly curated boxes and à la carte product options to help you experience Asian beauty. 3B aims to make it easy to discover beauty products from Korea, Japan and Taiwan.</div>

<b>Reason I said "Yes": </b>I was hoping for a quick procurement solution for Asian beauty products.</div>

Overall, I like the idea of a $15/month ($12/month prepared for a year) box for Korean samples but I haven't been too impressed with the ones I've received. I expected more deluxe size samples instead of multiples of product single use satchets. The selection of products in a box are OK to good with some recognizable names and some brands new to me. I am aware of what Asia pumps out so I was expecting a little bit more here.</div>

Though I love eyeshadow, a red lip makes me feel a million times more sexy. Even a smokey eye can’t compete with the instant sex appeal of a red lipstick. Now, when I wear <strong>Make Up For Ever’s M401* </strong>(Hot Red by Icona Pop, $27CDN, 0.12oz) and add on a spicy fragrance like <b>Commodity's </b><strong>Whiskey </strong>($120CDN, 100ml), the I have admit that I feel <i>pretty</i> good.</div>
<div dir="auto">

<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong style="font-weight: bold;">Whiskey</strong> is an amazing fragrance to be wearing right now. I love its amber and musk notes, and this men’s cologne with a red lip gives me just the right touch of naughty to be wearing at the office. The red lip grabs a little more attention, and the closeness of the cologne’s oriental woody properties is a nice surprise for those who draw near. Sultry without being too subversive, <b>Whiskey</b> is a good girl’s walk on the wicked side without getting into anything too kinky.</div>

<strong>Whiskey’s</strong> notes are:</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Middle notes: Sage, Ivy, Lavender</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Base notes: Dark Musk, Amber, Cinnamon, American Oak, Mahogany<br />

To be truthful, I wish <strong>Whiskey</strong> lasted slightly longer but a few more sprays and some into my clothing gives the scent a decent boost. I find the sillage moderate which is just right for my intended effect. There are few occasions when its allowable to smell blatantly wanton, and anything more forceful would be rude.</div>
<div dir="auto" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="auto" style="text-align: justify;">
If the reviews on Fragrantica are anything to go by, and you <i>do</i> want to cross into something more heady, there is <strong>Guerlain’s Shalimar. </strong> I recall it was too overpowering and powdery for my liking. However I do know a few <strong>Shalimar</strong> fans and the thing has been around since 1925 so its got to be doing something right.</div>
<div dir="auto" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="auto" style="text-align: justify;">
All that’s just to say, <strong>Whiskey</strong> is giving me all kind of good feels right now and I’m not ready to stop pumping this for an alternative in its class (though now that I think about it, <strong>Maison Margiela’s Jazz Club</strong> is sitting in my drawers, and that's got all kinds of leathery goodness). It's a great winter fragrance that adds the perfect hint of seduction to your everyday. Now I'm super curious about the different ways to mix this up with the other <b>Commodity</b> options.</div>
